A Word about the Rose of Sharon
Although the name ‘Rose of Sharon’ is often associated with Jesus, there is no biblical basis for it. The term only appears once, in Song of Songs 2:1, where the bride of King Solomon uses it to describe herself.
However, the ‘Rose of Sharon’, likely a type of crocus or saffron, was renowned for its fragrance and pain-relieving properties. This may explain why it is often associated with Jesus, our Great Physician who healed the sick and came to free us from the scourge of sin.

The Name Sharon
Our church is named after the Plain of Sharon, one of the largest plains in the Holy Land. In Hebrew, the name Sharon (Šārôn) means “straight, level, upright and blessed.”
The name is rich in spiritual symbolism and is used in Scripture to represent beauty, peace, joy, abundance, and divine blessings.
Our church’s vision is to reflect the meaning of our name, Sharon, which inspires us to grow in the Lord and to walk with Him in righteousness, joy, peace, and unity.

What we learn from ‘Sharon’
1. To take the straight and narrow road.
Sharon means ‘straight and level.’ This teaches us to live justly and uprightly before God (Psalm 119:1).
2. To dwell together in harmony.
Sharon is described as a pleasant, peaceful, and blessed place. This highlights the importance of creating an environment where everyone feels loved and welcome (Psalm 133:1).
3. To seek the Lord and worship Him.
It was the same God who turned Sharon into a wilderness (Isaiah 34) and then clothed it again with graceful blossoms (Isaiah 35). From the rose mentioned in Solomon’s Song of Songs to the pastures described by Isaiah, ‘Sharon’ invites worship of the Shepherd King who restores souls and landscapes alike.
Those who seek the Lord, will be blessed with His presence and with the abundant blessings that accompany it.
“Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.”
Hosea 6:3
The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy. The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon; they will see the glory of the Lord, the splendor of our God.
Isaiah 35:1-2
